This was the STI model that was least successful in WRC, sadly. The 2006MY WRX STI as well as 2007MY, they didn’t do very well in the primary WRC competition.
In the case of Japan, M3 is sold for 100K USD, but STI is sold for 30K USD.
Although I like BMW as a fashion of Europe, I think that STI mechanical value is high.
I think that it is wise to choose Subaru if it is a difference of this price.

I’m a subaru sti fan, but i drive a BMW E90, though im selling it over an STI, BMW still is a good car.

No but you can put more or less torque directed to the rear wheels…
You won’t regret it. Yes, fuel and insurance will cost a bit much, but the STi is the greatest and most well-rounded sports car out there. It will tackle anything. Enjoy it! And if you can afford it, buy a $1k beater civic for daily driving, and the STi for the fun on the weekends. It’d save you lots in the long run, and you would still have the STi!

I’m not sure why so many of you are hating on BMW’s. The E46 M3 is widely regarded as one of the best driver’s cars ever built. I myself am looking into an 06-07 STI for the AWD and the reliability (and because they’re awesome), but if I didn’t see snow and had some extra cash I’d sure as hell look for an M3. A true car enthusiast loves ALL cars.

My Mother works out of her car for disaster inspections, her 04′ Outback just hit 240k miles. Besides regular maintenance (bulbs, brake pads etc), the only thing that ever needed to be replaced was the drive belt, that was at 238k. Most reliable brand ever, the customer service at any Subaru is 5 star.
I drive a BMW. Why? Coz I couldn’t afford an STi.
good comment but certain Japanese cars maintenance is ridiculous, oil and filter change 3k miles service 4k miles tyres 4.5k miles and tax, fuel. Everything is more expensive when it comes down to performance. I was on about Evo FQ-400 in that comment btw. Courtesy of Top Gear.
