Big Red Camaro: Driving Fast & Taking Chances [Official Trailer]

The official trailer for Big Red Camaro: Driving Fast & Taking Chances. The October 2010 Mojave Mile marked the beginning of a partnership between Team Big Red and longtime fan/filmmaker Josh Oliver to create the ultimate Big Red Camaro documentary film. Filming at events throughout 2011 yielded over 160 hours of interviews, insider access, documentary footage, and some of the most incredible shots of Big Red at its finest. Each event proved to be unique as the filmmakers employed tools and tactics typically reserved for big budget action movies, like the Cineflex camera system on an A Star helicopter, massive 1000mm lenses on the ground, over 20 “BR” on-board camera angles, and an airplane flying at 160+ mph to get the viewer never before seen, up-close and in-tight action shots of Big Red at devastating top speeds. Some 15 months have passed since then, and in 2011 Big Red competed in 5 of the biggest events the “Weekend Warrior” motor sports world has to offer: Mojave Mile, The Texas Mile (Goliad), The Spectre Challenge (aka Hwy 341 Virginia City), Vintage Auto’s “Big Bore Bash” at Willow Springs Raceway, and of course, the Grand Daddy of them all… where the Big Red legend began… September, in Ely, NV for the 24th running of The Silver State Classic Challenge. After many months and a lot of hard work, we are proud to bring you the first trailer for the documentary. Stay tuned for more videos, clips, and coming soon, the full-length historical documentary. 1. Great video , need to chill out with the music. Rather b hearing engine sounds.

  2. @josh Oliver .whens it coming out I love how it was this car that basically started the whole pro-touring movement

  3. I am sure, YOU are going to tell these guys that something is wrong with their car. Stick to your bad ass 1984, lifted 4×4 Camaro dork! You are the kind of fag that walks into a shop and starts telling them how shit should be done, having never built your own shit. Dont start lying about what you have or what you have built cause anyone that has knows better than to do what you are doing. You just make yourself sound even dumber with every post, moron.

  4. This is yet another reason why people who obviously have never been in, driven in, or built a car even close to this caliber should just shut their pie holes… Unless you have something like this you have no f-ing clue what you are talking about, bad motor mounts? The motor mounts by themselves could outrun anything your dumbass has ever owned. So put up or shut the f-up!

  5. The car is impeccably maintained and has been by the same crew chief for 20 years, he is one with this car.
So yes, 1918bibi, the car is “squatting” on the right rear in the final shot as the car is going away from you, good observation.

  6. NO BRAINER: Every car “lists” to one side under heavy straight line acceleration, it’s the torque from the motor (inertia actually from the crankshafts spinning mass) loading up the frame, suspension, drivetrain and everything in between. I’m pretty sure there are no “bad” motor mounts, or anything else on Big Red.

  7. …doco and racing footage together takes some time, especially to do it right. We will continue to upload little “taster” vids to keep your appetites from getting out of hand. Please keep checking in the The Big Red Camaro YouTube page and by all means-Subscribe!
-Thanks, Team Big Red and The Big Red film crew.

  8. Hey Folks, just a quick update since many of you have been asking. Please be patient on the release of the “film.” Our editor is cranking away and it’s coming along very nicely, but we have A MOUNTAIN of footage to assemble this epic masterpiece in true Big Red fashion-nothing is easy. We are picking up a few necessary interviews that need to be shot still to help tell the story. Does anyone have any suggestions out there? As you can imagine putting 25 years of history and 3 years of…

  9. Undeniably an awesome car. I first saw it in ’93 at the Silver State Classic. Set the track record. Awesome seeing it in person. The Gottliebs have done a world class effort on this car and held true to their style of racing thru it all. Thanks for posting this video. I look forward to the movie.

  10. So, when is the movie going to released? Been waiting a couple of months for this?!

  11. The thing is though, this car Big Red is a 25 year old race car just as you see it. It was raced for a few years then put in a museum and later taken back out to race every year after that and it’s still the nearly undisputed top dog in it’s racing class…25 years later. So make your argument about motor mounts all you want, on a normal hot rod you’d be right, but until you build something even remotely close to Big Red your just trying to argue online. Not trying to be a jerk, it’s what it is.

  12. This car doesn’t have typical motor mounts. They’re solid motor mounts ,ZERO give, with a complete tube chassis frame. The motor is pretty much mounted solid to the frame, that’s why the suspension is what has to give when the torque of it’s monster of a motor is unleashed. The truth of the matter is that the torque making the car lean like that is only a problem if; 1 it’s a pure drag car and that twist is adding 100ths of seconds or 2 the tires just can’t hook up and spin.

  13. i read all your thoughts, but the fact is, if tq is a problem, such as this, then, maybe you need better mounts…because if tq, if it is the problem, you need a new power structure. a car shifting under psower, means YOU have bad MOTOR MOUNTS

  14. This car was designed for road racing the day it was built. The engine mounts and chassis stiffness will only reduce the twist created by the torque of the engine. In the end when the torque is great enough the engine will actually try twist the chassis, with a stiff enough chassis to take the torque the twist will be minimal but it will still twist and the suspension on the apposing side of the engine torque will be compressed. I.E. One side will squat down when you mash the loud peddle.

  15. the motor mounts take car of the tq or moment within the engine bay. A stiff chassis distributes said tq. if its uneven like you claim, then its a problem having NOTHING to do with tq at the crank. but a distribution of force within the car. but either way, a resepctible car at the least. but cars produce more tq and power and dont have this problem…. this problem will be cured when its designed for raod racing

  16. That’s just the torque from the 1000hp big block twisting the car. This is my definition of a REAL legendary car.

  17. Real hot rods are DRIVEN!!!

This one is as real as it gets!!!

I would LOVE to see this car do the One Lap Of America!

  18. I remember reading about this car in Hot Rod magazine back in the late 80′s or early 90′s.It is a legend that i spoke of often.I often wondered what became of it,and am glad to see it back in action. When i came across this video,it gave me chills! I remember just a short while back, digging for info on this car and i even came to youtube in search of video’s of it.I found one back then…a blurry vid of a high speed pass.Old warhorses never die…they just go faster!
