The Scottish Government plans to appoint an independent group headed by a judge to take forward Lord Leveson’s plans for legally backed regulation of the press. The First Minister made the announcement to Parliament during a debate on the Leveson report this afternoon. In other news: A twenty six year old man’s been detained after an alleged stabbing incident in Perth. Police officers sealed off a section of the city’s High Street after reports of an altercation late yesterday afternoon. A 21 year old man is said to have been the victim of a serious assault. He was taken to Ninewells Hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening. The fugitive who was being hunted by police on both sides of the border has appeared in court. Ivan Leach, who’s also known as Lee Cyrus, was at the centre of a massive search after escaping from an open prison in Lincolnshire in October. He appeared today at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court in London on a charge of being unlawfully at large. The court was told he’s likely to plead guilty later at Crown Court. He was remanded in custody. Investigations are continuing into a head on crash on one of Dundee’s busiest thoroughfares which left a pensioner with serious injuries. It’s understood the seventy seven year old man was driving towards Broughty Ferry on Dundee Road West when his Honda Civic car collided with a Renault Megane.
