A bleak assessment of the current state of the Scottish economy has coincided with the demise of another High Street name. JJB Sports is going into administration. Up to half of its 33 Scottish stores could close. It came as Vince Cable announced the UK Government is putting £1bn into a bank designed to boost business. In other news: Some people living in Scotland’s most deprived areas have a “fatalistic” attitude to health problems such as heart disease and are almost resigned to an early death. That’s the conclusion of a parliamentary inquiry into cardiology services. The Scottish Government is being urged to do more to tackle one of the country’s biggest killers. The Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has said his party has to work harder to explain to voters their role in the UK Coalition. Mr Clegg conceded the Liberal Democrats have been on the back foot and said his alliance with the Conservatives was proving difficult to sell in Scotland. And in sports: Neil Lennon says he’ll rest Scott Brown for tomorrow’s Cup tie with Raith Rovers to ensure the Celtic captain will be available for Scotland’s up-coming double header. Ricky Burns is set to make the next defence of his world title in December this year. Paul di Resta says he’s delighted to have enjoyed a career best at what he describes as “the most demanding and toughest race for a car and driver”.
