A car thief who drove over a pensioner as he tried to stop him stealing his car has been jailed for life, after being found guilty of murder. Christopher Grenfell had admitted killing 76 year old James Simpson, but claimed it was an accident. After the verdict the victim’s son said his father’s “strong sense of right and wrong” resulted in him chasing Grenfell with terrible consequences, leaving his mother a “shattered, nervous and a lonely widow”.
