2004 Corvette Z06 – Cool Cars, Hot Cars, Fast Cars

2004 Corvette Z06 Just your run-o-the-mill badass Z06 roadster. The C5 Corvette was literally built differently than all GM products leading up to 1997. 0.29 drag in the wind tunnel. DIC which could read diagnostic codes and display them for the driver without a computer. Constructing the frame rails with a process called Hydroforming. Replacing 14 parts used in the structural integrity of the C4 helping reducing the C5′s weight by 68 pounds. Hydroforming also alleviated the tall frame rails for the C5 making it less of a chore to enter and exit then the C4. You had to carefully step over the frame so you wouldn’t scrape the interior carpet with your shoes or worse stiletto heals. I thought it was unique and missed it in the C5. Third-generation LS1 V8 was overhauled to an all-aluminum block, utilizing ignition coils replacing the distributor of all previous small-block engines and new cylinder firing order. Rated at 345 bhp and 350 lbs. ft. With 28 mpg highway mileage it avoided the gas guzzler tax. Another trend set by Corvette was Run Flats Tires became standard equipment in 1997. The most important of all refinements was the transmission being moved to the rear of the car right between the wheels aptly named trans-axle. Of course the significance of this was Corvette now had a more even distribution weight to the tune of 51% in front 48% in back. This may not seem like a big deal now but in 1997 as a gearhead or an American auto enthusiast you knew what they meant for

  1. Maybe you should lift wieghts if you are as inferior to Americans as a beetle.

  2. @ the end of the day nobody can deny that this car isn’t bad ass. I mean bang for your buck nothing can touch it. It was an out the box track ready car who could also stick with the European exotics. Btw it still looks sexy a decade later.

  3. can any z06 owner tell me how well has your 04 lasted? I wouldn’t mind looking into one in the future.

  4. absolutely! My 02 z06 , i drove from sad diego to las vegas over 10 times, worst mileage i ever calculated(filling up, drving 220-250 miles then go fill back up and see the gal used ) and im a math guy btw, anyway you get the point

SD to LV roadtrip(345miles total) which has mountains etc:
    1) worst- 27.1 mpg (soo hot, well over 100 deg in summer death valley desert) going 80mph w/ A/C blasting the whole way.
    2) best- 30.8 mpg ( 50 deg weather ) again, 80 mph average

  5. This guy is cool because he gives a lot of very unique information, in a very short time !!! now I want one !!! Thanks

  6. I watched this video again and he was definitely talking about the Z06 FRC body style because he said from 01′ to ’04 which is exactly the years the C5 Z06 was made.

  7. I think he was talking about for the Z06. Every C5 owner knows about the FRC LS1 vettes. They were advertising them like crazy when they came out.

  8. Dont know much about vettes do you… They offered this body style starting in 99 which was a base C5 FRC…

  9. Dude this was really informative and well put together. Enjoyed reading it as much as watching the video. I have the 98 Convertable C5 and treat her really well. She’s black too. I’ll post a new video in a few weeks when some new things done to her are complete.

  10. 29 mpg…you lucky dog. I get about 14 thanks to my crazy cam..but its worth it. I love my Z06 and just like yours…black on black.

  11. Im Glad I Sold Mine O.o I Just Couldn’t Deal With The Low Quality Interior Same As Of The Truck’s Chevy Makes Pathetic.

  12. Im not talking about what inspired it im talking about the looks. The none of the Corvettes have ever or even looked like a Jaguar XK-120. lo

  13. Wow. Ok i’m not going to continue this because you don’t know a whole lot of Corvette HISTORY. In the late 1940′s/early 50′s Harley J. Earl who was the founder and head of GM’s Art and Colour Section of the styling department, was inspired by the new 1949 Jaguar XK-120 and wanted to build and American car that had similar features. And guess what? The Corvette rolled out in 1953 thanks to him and the insperation that came from the Jaguar XK-120.

  14. Yes, and look at the insperation for it: A Jaguar. Listen, I’m a huge Corvette fan so i’m not trying to start an argument here. I just accept that some european creation has inspired this car to be what it is today. A European beater!

  15. NO it hasnt look at Corvettes HISTORY, do you notice the body style from back to the C1 through out the C6.

  16. Not exactly buddy. Now I own a 2001 C5 and even I can admit it has european look to it. It is an American Beast with a hint of european engeneering design as well. I mean come on now, Corvette wouldn’t be beating those euros if we didn’t tear some pages from them.

  17. Right on brother!!!! I call my modded C6 “The Fighter Jet Without Wings” lol ;)
Nice Z06 man, my uncle has a procharged ’02 Z06…With his other mods, it’s putting down over 600 RWHP and over 500 RWTQ! This thing is insane! I have to ask what his latest time is, but I know he’s trapping upwards of 135 mph in the 1/4 mile. It almost makes my C6 feel slow lol. Enjoy your vette man :)
