PAL-V Flying Car – Maiden Flight

This week the Dutch company PAL-V announced the first flights of its prototype “flying car”. This unique vehicle is called the PAL-V One, or the ‘Personal Air and Land Vehicle’, and It marks the start of a new era. On the ground the vehicle drives like a sports car. Within minutes its rotor is unfolded and its tail is extended: then it is ready to take off thanks to the advanced gyrocopter technology. With these successful test results it is proven that it is not only possible to build a flying car but also that it can be done within existing international rules for both flying and driving. Having passed this important milestone the company is now inviting investors to join them in creating the future. The next step will be the design of the first commercial production model of the PAL-V, and first deliveries are expected in 2014. For 100 years people have dreamed of a flying car, and many attempts have been made to realize this dream, but now it has truly become a reality. www.PAL-V.com

  1. so what anyone could may make a flying car 100 years ago ,the thing you have to do is to get a normal car and fix an helicopter rotor on top, thats much simple why didnt people construct it,because people did not used there brain in technology and sience but they used there brain to make useless expensive huge huge aircrafts

  2. If I had this I would turn it on while stuck in traffic then all would just see my face

  3. But a fixed wing would be too hard to get into and out of the air, compared to a heli-chopper. 11 MPG isn’t so bad.

  4. Look at their specs. 28mpg on the ground, 11mpg in the air? i guess the rotor creates a lot of drag. I’m sure a fixed wing would be more efficient.

  5. That’s not exactly what I envision when I think of flying car… That looks a lot like a helicopter to me.

  6. Waiting for the FLAS-V … “Family Land Air Sea Vehicle”…. flying, driving, amphibious sedan. :-p Doesn’t exist yet… consider this my patent.

  7. these tiny on seater “copter cars” are noveltys at best- not very practical for everyday use other then recreation.

if this is the best we can do then there is still a ways to go.

  8. according to the top comments, a car that is pretty much a helicopter doesn’t count as a flying car… looks like it fucking taking off to me

  9. This is not a helicopter , but a gyrocopter (the rotor is only in autorotation and is considered as a simple wing) : totaly different!
