US drift stars, Ken Gushi and Rhys Millen challenge 2005 D1 Champion Yasuyuki Kazama for a drift battle. Ken even shows up with his 500hp Ford Mustang he competes in Formula D, but hold on kid. To make all conditions equal, all three must drive the same car, a COMPLETELY stock Mazda MX-5 Roadster. You know who’s really good when they can turn a stock vehicle sideways. After the battle, Keiichi and Kazama take Ken’s Mustang for spin. Also featuring model/drifter Verena Mei.

The gloves and the graphics will come off this weekend at the Olympus Rally, the final round of the 2012 Rally America Championship. Subaru Rally Team USA (SRT USA) driver David Higgins mathematically secured the Drivers’ Championship at the previous round and enters the Olympus Rally with a promise to drive flat-out in his 2012 Subaru STI rally car. The Subaru team’s traditional blue and yellow graphic livery will be replaced with a strikingly simple all-white graphic scheme, a veritable ‘white horse’, to commemorate Higgins’ four Rally America National Championship titles. The Olympus Rally will be held September 22-23 in Olympia, WA, where over 70 teams will return to the gravel logging roads once used in the 1980′s when the Olympus Rally hosted a round of the World Rally Championship. The competition stages are located just outside of Olympia, Washington

ken gushi is japanese and born in japan too and they used him to represent usa so why not dai? xD
dude, Dai is japanese he just lives in the US
yeah, i think dai and tanner should represent usa.
NICE! Thank you so much for muting the music when the car started driving and having cuts that were long enough to actually see what’s happening. This is how to film driving.
the hatchbacks are already at 50/50 weight distribution.
Foust > Block
hmm, good question. One thing I can think of is (and I can be 110% wrong on this) If you look at the fiesta rally car. They put the radiator in the back hatch where the window should be so that they had even more room to built the engine in the engine bay. Just a thought, but otherwise, not sure

Technically speaking, hatchback STi’s have a lower polar moment of inertia relative to the sedans – weight doesn’t stick out as far back on the hatchback, which makes it easier for the driver to make controlled slides in turns and maintain more speed throughout the course.
A few years ago when Petter Solberg drove for the Subaru WRC Team he was in touch with the Subaru STI Engineering Team to do testing to figure out how to make their cars more competitive against the other cars in the WRC. The other cars were quickly changing to hatchback versions of their cars. So they decided after testing to go with the hatchback. I believe it was in 2008. That is the reason they came out with the STI Hatchback and why the use them in USA.
i think they are more stable at high speed
Oh Yeah!!!
the hatch is something like 12 or 14 inches shorter, and is also easier for the drivers to throw from side to side. The drivers were specifically requesting to use the hatch over the sedan for those reasons.
@Tunerdude94 They will be back when Subaru releases a car with a smaller engine that qualifies
I will. Thanks.
There you go! now watch the GRC Las Vegas on espn2 at 6:00pm sunday
You know what? You’re right, I’m sorry if I was rude. It just makes me sad to see such a rally giant such as Subaru kind of die out a little as it has. I wish SRT was still in the WRC and I wish rally was more prominent here in the US. Anyways I enjoy watching skilled drivers do what they do.
Also I do respect Higgins as a Rally Driver and hope he does make it to the WRC but he had to start small and he does seem to have skill.
Well just for future reference Subaru’s world rally team is dying and Higgins may be headed out along with rally america seeing as here in the US we do not respect rally as a sport. Ken blocks career in the WRC is expanding along with ford’s rally team which is constantly growing with the support of the European fans. Ken Block is more than capable of outdriving Higgins in any environment because of his larger amount of experience, educate yourself about the sport before you mindlessly comment.
Okay then. But all the info in your first comment is all stuff I knew.
No the sedan is more front heavy don’t worry I know I’ve driven both versions of the rally car and the hatchback is much more balanced and less tail happy
No I’m a rally driver who does the GRC testing and I know a bit more than you
i thought that they used the hatch because it was a bit shorter and had a 50/50WD?
Subi’s are less front heavy than an evo. sedan would actually be better for weigh distribution.
My guess they run the hatch because it came out a year earlier.
i think its just kuzz there smaller and more nimble
alot of rally cars are small
old minicoopers
golf gti etc
Who are you? Ford’s PR guy? If so, I’m sorry but I plan on never buying a Ford.
