A boy who was left brain damaged following an accident at school will receive compensation after a judge ruled the local authority was to blame. A health service watchdog is calling for urgent action to improve the cleanliness of patient equipment in hospitals across Scotland. Scottish policeman Stephen Mitchell has been found guilty of six counts of misconduct. In other news, Glasgow City Council has published details of budget proposals aimed at saving £45million in the next financial year and the sister of a woman killed in a speeding car is backing calls to reduce the speed limit in all urban areas. Top story: Scottish Councils could be on a collision course with the Government over plans to call a halt to all rural school closures in the next year. In other news: an elderly woman has died after her husband drove over her in a car park accident; Glasgow’s new transport museum is now just three weeks from opening its doors to the public and is set to become one of Scotland’s biggest visitor attractions; and in sport, Gregg Wylde reckons he’s going to have to win over new Rangers manager Ally McCoist in the same way he did with the now departed Walter Smith. A seven year old boy has suffered serious head injuries in a car crash in Angus. The boy was a rear seat passenger in a Vauxhall Corsa which collided with a tractor near Monikie shortly before 10 o’clock. Neil McKenzie and Trevor Muirhead will be sentenced later. In other news: George Galloway has completed a shock election win by capturing the Bradford West seat from Labour on a 36 percent swing; former Celtic captain Stilyian Petrov has been diagnosed with Leukemia; a teenager has died in a crash between a car and a lorry on the M8; and in sport, Ally McCoist says he had to give Kyle Lafferty a ticking off after the striker claimed Rangers are better than Celtic. The family of two young brothers who died in a canoeing accident in the Highlands have said they are “utterly devasted” by the loss. Five year old Ewan Beaton and his two year old brother Jamie died yesterday after their boat capsized in Loch Gairloch. The recovery operation for their father has been stood down for the day. In other news: A man who was living in Glasgow as a fake asylum seeker has been jailed for 7 years for funding terrorism. Nasserdine Menni was convicted of transferring money to the Stockholm suicide bomber. A man accused of murdering a Lanarkshire pensioner by driving over him with his own car, has claimed he killed him by accident. And in sports: Stuart McCall says he hopes to bring in new faces ahead of Friday’s transfer window deadline. The Motherwell manager will take an injury ravaged squad to play Levante in the Europa League on Thursday. Rangers have been handed a trip north to face Forres Mechanics in the Second Round of the Scottish Cup. The Ibrox club will play last year’s Highland League winners on Saturday, 29th of September. All eyes were on Gleneagles earlier as Europe Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal named his two wildcard selections. He’s given the honour to Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaert and England’s Ian Poulter.

The search for the body of a father missing after a canoe capsized in a Highland sea loch killing three young children has been stood down for a third night. 32 year old Ewen Beaton from Beauly, was in the boat when it overturned in Loch Gairloch on Sunday afternoon. In other news: Concern for patient safety has been voiced after it was revealed the number of NHS nurses and midwives in Scotland has hit a seven year low. The cuts come despite increasing demands on the under-pressure service. The Scottish Government say they’re reinvesting savings in frontline services. A jury in the trial of a man accused of killing a Lanarkshire pensioner by running him over with his own car, has been urged to divorce themselves of emotion and find him not guilty of murder. 76 year old James Simpson died while trying to stop his car being stolen from outside his home in Ashgill last November. A murder trial has been halted for a second time after the presiding judge discovered he was related by marriage to the alleged victim’s family. The first trial involving the same case was stopped after another judge realised she knew one of the witnesses. And in sports: Neil Lennon says he wants to sign three players before Friday’s transfer deadline. Helsinborg coach Age Hareide believes the Celtic players may become rattled if his team can get the first goal tomorrow night.
