China Focus – Can China Produce a Steve Jobs? Soul-Searching Over China’s Gaokao

Imagine starting to study for your college entrance exam…in kindergarten. That’s what some students do for China’s gao kao, the two-day nationwide college entrance exam, that determines which college students get into. The gao kao is considered so key to determining the future of students, that parents and students take extreme measures for the test. The gao kao happened earlier this month, but now there seems to be a growing backlash against the test, after a TV host’s rant against the exam went viral. Zhong Shan, of Hunan TV, said the test twisted human nature, giving examples like a daughter not being told of her father’s death for two months to keep her from getting distracted from the test, or a daughter having to leave her bleeding mother behind after they got in a car accident on the way to the test. Why is there so much pressure over the Gao kao? And what does it say about China’s larger education system? For more news and videos visit ➡ ‪ English.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ➡ ‪http Add us on Facebook ➡ ‪on.fb.me

Self-Driving Car Test: Steve Mahan

We announced our self-driving car project in 2010 to make driving safer, more enjoyable, and more efficient. Having safely completed over 200000 miles of computer-led driving, we wanted to share one of our favorite moments. Here’s Steve, who joined us for a special drive on a carefully programmed route to experience being behind the wheel in a whole new way. We organized this test as a technical experiment, but we think it’s also a promising look at what autonomous technology may one day deliver if rigorous technology and safety standards can be met.
