A motorcyclist has died in a collision with a car near Comrie in Perthshire. The 41 year old man was pronounced dead at the scene on the A85 about a mile west of the town. The boss of Perth based Stagecoach is to step down from the driving seat of the company. Sir Brian Souter has announced he’s to switch from chief executive of the transport giant to become chairman. The family of an Angus man who’s dying of a rare muscle wasting condition have spoken of their revulsion over the theft of money from a fund to help him have a last holiday. Winter road maintenance in Perthshire and Kinross is to be stepped-up, despite a trend towards milder weather conditions. An Iraq war veteran has arrived in Tayside as he walks his way around the UK trying to inspire others to follow in his footsteps. And in sports: Aberdeen manager Craig Brown has warned his side against complacency ahead of tonight’s Communities League Cup match against Greenock Morton. Industry leaders are welcoming news of two major deals which will see Chinese companies invest more than ten billion pounds in the North Sea. Talisman have sold nearly half of their UK operation to Sinopec, while the state owned China National Offshore Oil Corporation have made a bid for Nexen who operate the giant Buzzard field. Parents of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan have taken part in protests against plans to reduce the size of the British Army. There were demonstrations at over sixty war memorials around the country. The army is to lose 17 major units in the biggest overhaul of the service for decades. Philip Tartaglia made the comments after he was confirmed to succeed Archbishop Mario Conti as the leader of Glasgow’s Catholics. Gay rights campaigners say it’s an admission the Church has lost the argument. Two hundred and thirty eight drivers were caught by Tayside Police during a crack down on inappropriate driving at the weekend. Three motorists were charged with careless or dangerous driving, while 12 people were caught behind the wheel while under the influence of drink or drugs. An elderly woman’s died after a car crash near Perth. The 79 year old was driving on the A90 just south of the city when her silver Honda collided with a lorry. In other news: Scientists at Dundee University have made a breakthrough that could eventually lead to a cure for Parkinson’s disease. A former soldier who lost an eye in battle has been jailed for eight months after he stole money from a good Samaritan who took him in. Police are hunting vandals who damaged the helipad at Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital. It’s emerged that a second Tayside Police officer is facing an alleged assault charge. The UK government is being urged to review the correspondence sent by the Department for Work and Pensions, in light of a case involving a profoundly disabled Dundee man. And in sports: Aberdeen chairman Stewart Milne’s refused to say whether the Dons would vote to allow a NEWCO Rangers into the SPL. Former Dundee United midfielder, Barry Robson, says he’ll always be available to play for Scotland no matter where he is in the world.

In sport: Andy Robinson says its mission accomplished so far at the rugby World Cup. His Scotland side made it two wins out of two in New Zealand, after a battling victory over Georgia.

A woman’s admitted causing a crash in Fife which killed a teacher and left two children with serious injuries. Jacqueline Davidson was at the wheel of a people carrier which crashed head on into a car driven by primary school teacher Lorna Grant. Miss Grant died in hospital a few hours after the collision on the A92 in August 2010. In other news: St Andrews University is pressing ahead with a twenty five million pound plan to transform a derelict industrial site in a move which would cut its own energy costs. And in sports: With 21 goals so far this season, Jon Daly’s firmly in the race to win the golden boot awarded to the SPL’s top scorer, now he could also be named PFA Scotland’s Player of the Year.

The Scottish Government plans to appoint an independent group headed by a judge to take forward Lord Leveson’s plans for legally backed regulation of the press. The First Minister made the announcement to Parliament during a debate on the Leveson report this afternoon. In other news: A twenty six year old man’s been detained after an alleged stabbing incident in Perth. Police officers sealed off a section of the city’s High Street after reports of an altercation late yesterday afternoon. A 21 year old man is said to have been the victim of a serious assault. He was taken to Ninewells Hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening. The fugitive who was being hunted by police on both sides of the border has appeared in court. Ivan Leach, who’s also known as Lee Cyrus, was at the centre of a massive search after escaping from an open prison in Lincolnshire in October. He appeared today at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court in London on a charge of being unlawfully at large. The court was told he’s likely to plead guilty later at Crown Court. He was remanded in custody. Investigations are continuing into a head on crash on one of Dundee’s busiest thoroughfares which left a pensioner with serious injuries. It’s understood the seventy seven year old man was driving towards Broughty Ferry on Dundee Road West when his Honda Civic car collided with a Renault Megane. Scotland’s first female chief constable is to stand trial, accused of causing a head-on car crash. The head of Fife Constabulary, Norma Graham, has denied a charge of careless driving on the Cluny to Kinglassie Road in February. It’s alleged that her car collided with another vehicle, injuring the driver and herself. Trial was set for December at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, with a further hearing in November. Miss Graham is due to retire at the end of this month. In other news; NHS Tayside has launched a campaign to raise awareness of HIV. Posters are being displayed on buses to highlight a website aimed specifically at gay and bisexual men. It’s part of a wider scheme to improve support services, which will see the opening of a new community clinic in Dundee to make it easier for men to get tested. Experts say an increasing number of men, in particular those in their teens and twenties, are being diagnosed with the infection in the local area. And in sport; Dundee United have been charged by UEFA after crowd trouble broke out at their Europa league qualifier against Dinamo Moscow last week. There’s been a furious backlash from prominent business leaders in Aberdeen after councillors yesterday dismissed multi-million pound plans to transform the centre of the city. Opponents hailed a victory for common sense. Others branded it a disgrace and called on the Labour-led administration to resign. The Scottish Government recorded ITS disappointment. Meanwhile; Aberdeen Football club say plans to move to a new 38 million pound stadium have been effectively ‘killed off’ by the local authority. The council has rejected plans for a new sports complex which would have doubled as the SPL club’s training ground. In local news; Council officials are stressing there’s no risk to the public after legionella bacteria was found at a Dundee community centre. The bug was discovered in shower heads at a centre in Menzieshill earlier this month. The area’s since been deep-cleaned and the water system treated. As a precautionary measure, new showers will be installed. And; a motorcylist killed in a crash in Perthshire has been named. 41 year old David Roberts from Stanley died when his Ducati bike collided with a car on the A85 near Comrie late yesterday morning. He’d been travelling towards Comrie, a short distance behind the Jaguar car, which pulled into a driveway then back onto the road. A Perth teenager has admitted hurling a rock from a bridge and smashing the windscreen of a car in which a baby and toddler were travelling. The High Court in Glasgow heard that Paul Booth was walking along a flyover on the city’s Western By-Pass last December when he threw the stone onto the A9 below. In other news; A jury has been urged to find a learner driver guilty of killing his girlfriend in a car crash in Perthshire, because he was responsible for a “catastrophic loss of control”. Laura Campbell died after Euan Tennant’s sports car crashed into an oncoming four by four on the A93 near Scone in September 2010. And in sport; STV News can reveal the SFA have written to ALL NINETY THREE member clubs asking if they’ve complied with rules regarding player payments over the last TEN years.
