The Evo and the M3 CSL dont have that much differences in power and weight, and on a small circuit like this an AWD with no understeer and fast corner exit acceleration can actually beat the CLS’s laptime. The ‘M3 E92 competition pack’ actually has a worse laptime on Top Gear than the Evo VIII. Apart from that they always praise every non-japanese car in this show and tell that the japanese manufacturers use them as examples of how cars should be. And they win as long as they are the fastest car
The M3 was the fastest from the beginning, and took the lead very early, so he didn’t need to push the car the entire time.
