2011 Corvette Grand Sport vs. Matt’s Modified C5 Corvette

The Smoking Tire hits the Malibu Canyons with two torch red Corvettes: a 2011 Grand Sport, and Matt’s 1998 C5. Matt set out to turn his Corvette into a better drivers car, and we find out if GM’s improvements to the Corvette in the last 12 years match Matt’s modifications to his own car.

  1. Not everything has changed, See that carbon dash piece? Yeah.. It’s plastic. LOL

  2. love your vette matt. but one thing i noticed is how refined the exhaust is on the c6, i mean you down shift in the new 5.0 mustang, it sounds like a monster. chevy needs meaner exhaust. ford has mean sounding exhaust fdrom the factory. that c6 sounds like a some v6s out there. so chevy, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PUT TURBO MUFFLERS ON THE C7!

  3. Vettes are the best bang for buck n its funny how people who dislike vettes watched this vid

  4. No a good heads cam peak power is around 450rwhp.. You’d be lucky to make much more… Your as fucken dumb as the fat guy ricing out his corvette in this video.

  5. nice corvette Matt ur project has the right concept the c5 corvette is one of my fav cars the other in which is the last gen toyota supra ! in from the island of antigua in the caribbean and there r simple tuned cars here i know ud like i hope someday u can come this side of the world n experience the caribbean car scene

  6. In the event that you dont drive a good deal, you should not spend a lot for car insurance policies. Lower mileage drivers may get a much better deal at this particular web site. Have a look at it now.

  7. If I hadn’t owned a car with pop up headlights, I would have never believed it either. One is not that big, so in theory they shouldn’t be a problem, but when you add the 2 of them together, its like a mini wall on the front of your car. LOL

  8. I’ve never had pop-up headlights, but I just couldn’t imagine them causing so much issue. I’ll take your word for it though!

  9. Why does it have to be a weird situation? He could just be speeding at night. A lot of people drive faster at night as there are less cars on the road. Speaking from experience, pop up headlights are the worst. You can seriously feel the drag that they add. He wasn’t lying when he said it is like 2 parachutes strapped to your car.

  10. @TheSmokingTire hey matt was thinking about picking up a c5 vette and doing modifications like yours to it if so what all did you do to yours and how much?, or should i just get a c6 and do minor things to like exhaust, seats, and brakes. love the vids and your opinion

  11. i like your corvette, alot of hatters here. wish i could afford a c5 haha was saving up for a c4 zr1 but was not meant to be. i must be the few that liked the c4 vettes in lt4 or lt5 trim. ended up with a 97z love it and man i can’t wait to make it a 6speed kinda nervous bout doing it myself but should be fun.

  12. If you had watched the video you would have heard him say its a stock “bottom end” LS1. Cam and bolt on LS1′s are capable of making over 450 rwhp easy.
