Renault Megane RS : Car Review

Here’s Adam Towler’s video review of the Renault Megane RS for New Car Net. In recent years, Renaultsport has become the leading exponent of the hot hatch, with finely honed variants of both the Clio and Megane. OK, familiar ingredients: a turbocharged 2-litre ‘four’ driving the front wheels, RenaultSport’s justly revered chassis tuning, and great seats. But this time it’s wrapped in this almost coupe-like 3-door ‘shell, and the build quality is certainly better inside. You can watch all the latest motoring news and car reviews at newcarnet.co.uk

  1. best looking hatch (especially front end), and, of course, the best driving car in class

  2. Who’s the opening track from? nice review, would like it to be a bit longer, maybe more shots of the interior and fast cornering?

  3. He He…..I’m glad you have a sense of humour :-) ))) Yeah closed my eyes and took me right back to the good old days….I will subscribe….excellent reviews…..well done…and thank you.

  4. LOL! You’re the first to mention it. We thought it was the best bit! ;-)

  6. Received an unfair parking ticket/PCN in the UK?

Try this… it’s really simple and works… be brave, fight back and don’t let them win!

  7. It has a had a mild facelift since this review so you might want to take another look.

  8. man if only this megane had a nicer looking front, i just love the looks of the back and i don’t mind the inside but the front.. could be better, could be a perfect car all around

  9. I follow you on the weight. Had a C2 VTS prior to the Megane. Only 125bhp but just over the ton and very easy to throw around. The latest Megane has shed 40 – 50kilos though so thats a help.
Thought about the Clio as an upgrade (looks great in yellow) but I was dropping the company car (over tax). So I wanted something that can combine performance and look more conservative for work. Long motorway runs I can use the wife’s Peugeot.

  10. Yeah m8 take care of it when still running it in. i didn,t take clio past 4000rpm until it nearly had 5000 miles on it. seen some clio.s with only 190bhp on read outs. mainly because they thrash them from factory. you should see mpg gain when she,s run in.should be around 30-34mpg.

  11. After driving a new RENAULTSPORT i think every other cars gearbox,s steering feel and clutches will feel shit. lol bought clio on 59 reg. then a year ago bought VRS and even though we went to buy a family car. i couldn,t get used to how not sporty it felt beside the clio. clio avg 38mpg. and it,s 209bhp 169ft torque. when i test driven 250cup it didn,t feel as alive as clio it just felt easier to drive quicker with turbo. but could feel extra 200kg it was carrying.

  12. Also run a 405 2.0 TD
Really liked it until I got the Megane, now I dislike its gearbox, steering feel and clutch.

I always use the Peugeot when I have a lot of motorway miles though. The Megane has one disapointment, fuel economy is worse than I expected. I rarely use the 265bhp sport setting (until I have got 3000miles on the car at least) and I am still getting <26mpg on 97 Octane fuel. But smiles per gallon is off the chart.

    PS Love the RS Clio.

  13. dude my first car when i was 18 was a ROVER 25 GTI. i fucking loved that car and never had a problem with it in 2 years. but like EX girlfriends i would never go there again. lol since then i,ve had VTS, ST,TYPE R, now i own clio 200 cup. which i fucking adore. would love a 265 but think there all snapped up. only car i would trade clio for. also got 59reg skoda octavia VRS [ diesel ] which i have grown to really like for everyday driving. dispite the badge.

  14. Got to stick up for Rover cars here. They have an unfair bad rep and are better motors than they get credit for. Have owned an MGZR which was a fantastic handling car (love to see how many well looked after examples are on the road) Also had a 200bhp Rover 800 Vitesse, one of the most underrated cars ever.
Not supporting 1ns4ne1d10t ridiculous Megane comments though, my current daily drive is a Megane 265, and its a fantastic car. Makes up for the VW, BMW company cars I have had last few years.

  15. so your saying your ROVER 420 GSI has more character than a megane 250 cup? i just fell off my chair laughing. if blowing head gaskets is your version of character. then i feel sorry 4 you. plz don,t msg back. unless you need pushing to the shops in your wheelchair. but i surpose that,ll be more reliable than you 420 GSI.

  16. Thing is, to a naive retard like yourself who buys the car they think its got real flair and character to it but after you’ve driven them all day on productivity lines, done the 0-60′s in all of them, worn the T shirts you realise that none of them are any different to eachother and they are all the same metal boxes that behave the same. Its nice to get into a car after work that actually has character even if it doesn’t go nearly as fast and its called a Rover 420GSi if you havn’t heard of it.

  17. Oh right so is someone who owns a Rover 420GSi not allowed an opinion on a car then? I didn’t see a sign saying it was illegal for a 420GSi owner to be disappointed with a Renault Megane RS Cup? Bit of a stupid thing to say and no I’m quite happy to hand the better cars over and drive home in a 420GSi because all those “Best cars” have absolutely no character whatsoever they are all the same mass produced slop and you get so bored of the whole feel of them. I’ll keep my 420 thank you very much!

  18. Dude you have gone off topic twice. but i,ll get to the point. you drive 420 GSI. so WTF are commenting on how disapointed you was driving the megane RS. what you mean is after work you so disapointed to be driving that piece of shit home. and leaving all the best cars at the dock.

  19. …If you can’t afford a second hand 911 or Modena then why don’t you buy a second hand hot hatch instead of a brand new one? Yes? No? Only an idiot pays £22k upfront, if you wait 6 months or a year you can get one for less as a used car and it’ll still have warranty and everything else still on it. If you think £22k is the ONLY price you pay for this pile of garbage you are a bit of an idiot because you can get an RS Cup as a used car for less then £22k. Duuuuuuuuhhh lol
