Some footage taken from a Nissan Promo video. Hope they don’t mind. I’m just a fan trying to report this news.

  1. i work on these ships every day…and yes we walk up for our coffee break,we walk up the stairs

  2. I’m training as an engineer aboard car carriers, and my last vessel had it’s own Toyota Pickup Truck for use aboard the ship, for carrying lashings, equipment etc about the holds. It didn’t have registration plates, so could never leave, and despite being over 5 years old (It was aboard the ship when delivered from the yard), it had only done a few thousand miles.

  3. If This is an NYK line no wonder some of my vehicles come with scratches on the bumpers and shoe prints on the bonnet

  4. And were are now onboard with the lead car on this, the 1st annual RORO gran-prix

  5. spent time on 4 different car carriers but we did not drive up for morning coffee unless you were on stern ramp watch then go get some coffee from the galley or crews mess.

  6. I like a good crack-pot conspiracy theory, as much as the next guy, but…
Get your facts right. The gasoline internal combustion engine was already seen as the ideal power source for automobiles, 20 years before Henry Ford made his first Model T.
Coal, or wood gas? Are you serious? Do you have any idea what’s involved in powering a vehicle with coal, or wood gas? Let alone, the pollution! Really, don’t be so silly.

  7. Steel or iron hulled sailing vessels were still quite common, as late as the 1900′s.
The problem with fitting modern ships with auxiliary sails, is two fold.
    1. Modern “sails”, are more like computer controlled airplane wings, and are very expensive. Diesel fuel is still cheap. There is no financial incentive to use sails.
    2. “Sails” would interfere with loading and off-loading of ships, resulting in vast harbor infrastructure changes, resulting in increased shipping costs.

  8. December 4 2007, Governor General Michaelle Jean — the representative of Queen Elizabeth, Canada’s head of state — agreed to Harper’s request to shut down Parliament until Jan 26. Parliament was reconvened just weeks ago after the October 14 election.

you don’t even know about your own governement and you try talking ;)

  9. The most efficient modern sails are ridged wing sails. Pretty much the same as taking an …airplane… JET’s wing and turning it tip to the sky. There is not managing them, they can be power controlled just like the rudders. There is also a giant kite that has been developed to pull the ships. It is kinda the same as kite surfing, but bigger. It is a more convenient, but less helpful.

  10. But wouldn’t bigger sails be harder to manage?Plus wouldn’t the weight of steel ships cause problems?

  11. oh and just so you know about how much they care about “efficiency”, do you know the first care were running with everything, from coal to wood gaz, but petrol ? it only got used massively when Ford put out his first mass production car, and wanna know who gave him the fund to realise that ? i give you a clue, the same people who own british petroleum. to think they pushed him to use their product, i’m sure you’re going to call it a conspiracy theory hummm ???

  12. i’m such a douche at politic, i happen to have heard about the common wealth, wish you didn’t, obviously…

  13. and who told you it wasn’t normal and we will all end up drawning we the sea will rise huh ? oh yeah al gore, ted turner, royal family of englands, … all those people living in palaces, driving V12 limo, and all having property with sea view … to beleive a single word of their mouth is just plain pathetic …

  14. oh and as a canadian, why don’t you listen to prince charles, your ruler ? (queen of england disolved CA parliment, twice). stop taking hot bath so you’d be stinking like their middle age cerf, stop warming up your house too, as a canadian i’m sure you’ll enjoy it. sell your evil car and go everywhere by walking, you’ll love to carry all your groceries on your back don’t you ? or buy an electric one, so once it run out of juice in the middle of nowhere you’ll freeze to death in your car…

  15. i guess you seen polar bear drawn too ? when they’re the best swimming land animal on the planet. they tell you the ice crust from the pole is melting, sure it does, EACH AND EVERY SUMMER since billions of year, it freeze back in winter. ohhh but i forgot, it’s not about global warming anymore, now EVERY weather change is not normal. oh yeah that’s a real problem, let all pay money to al gore so he can put pixie dust all over the world to fix it. you, sir, deserve what you get. enjoy tyranny.

  16. hey retard, do you know every single planet of the solar system is getting warmer aswell ? THE FREAKING SUN is warmer. guess mars is getting hotter because of our SUV huh ? another one for you, retard, do you know a single volcano expel more CO² than humans since the industrial revolution ? yes it’s a scam, cause fuel shouldn’t be expensive in the first place cause, it’s not about “efficiency”, it’s about selling you on being poor. get your head out of your ass please.

  17. and all that when you know CO² global warmingis a total scam made only to put people into a post industrial revolution dark age ;)

nissan was the best car maker, they were selling ferrari quality car for 1/10th of the price, now they make 3 cylinders pile of garbage that’s crumbling after a couple year.

stop being so gulible people and vote with your wallet !!

  18. I only pointed out the fact that they said they “are trying to be the most efficient car company by building a ship”. That’s like trying to solve a math equation by chewing bubble gum.

  19. well nissan is already number 1 in making fuel efficient cars. so since they wanna be efficient in almost anything they do, why not make the cargo ships they make more efficient?
please think before making a dumb-ass comment.

  20. The question was “Why would a car company build a ship?”. The tarded narrator said “If you’re trying to be the most efficient car company, really the question is why not.”. BECAUSE YOU SHOULD GET BETTER AT BUILDING CARS BY BUILDING CARS NOT BOATS FUCKING DUMBASS

  21. Shouldn’t you be hiding under a bridge. I guess I can’t blame you, trolls will be trolls.

  22. Nissan has been making ships for a long, long time, seperate from their auto line-up. They just don’t mention those jumbo diesel powered behemoths because they are trying to catch up in the “green” race.

  23. Well, it’s certainly an interesting (if ugly,) vessel.
But I doubt that we’ll see Korean or Polish shipyards, cranking out carbon-fiber, streamlined cargo ships, anytime soon. (For reasons I stated below.)
And I’m pretty sure that this concept would be of extremely limited value on container ships, tankers, or even bulk carriers.
Personally, I see this ship more as a, “Look how ‘green’ Nissan is!” publicity gimmick, than a practical vessel.
