FOR MORE CAR VIDEOS & REVIEWS CHECK OUT www.kbb.com The Subaru Legacys appeal was once largely limited to a small car buying niche, often found bounding through banks of freshly fallen Vermont snow. As the years have passed, those in more temperate climates have also come to appreciate the sure-footedness provided by all-wheel drive. Continuing its march to the mainstream, the latest generation Subaru Legacy offers sportier looks, improved safety, a high-quality interior and yes, all-wheel drive. While many of the Legacys attributes carry on unchanged, one notable difference is the lack of a wagon body style. Wagon fans rest assured – the Subaru wagon carries on as the Outback, leaving the name Legacy exclusively for Subarus mid-size sedan. the transmission on the 2003-2009 Subaru Legacy
Transmission
4-speed automatic
5-speed automatic
5-speed manual
6-speed manual
My 3.0R is fantastic, steering and throttle response are both perfect. Fuel consumption on the other hand…
The base 4 cylinder is 4, gt and 6 cylinder get 5 speed auto (unfortunately removed from the gt for 2010) My 09 SE with the 4 speed auto easily gets high 30s on the highway
how many gears does automatic transmission have ?
Fuck Japanese resale value. I am not trying to pay $8,000 + for a 10 year old car when I go off to college. This or the Outback GT from the same generation would be ideal for me. Guess I need to save my pennies. Fuck.
I’d leased a 2009 Legacy 2.5i SE for two years and I loved driving that car. If you want to make the transmission a bit more responsive, just pop the shift lever to the side, i.e. toward the manu-shift gate. That’ll put it in Sport mode, but you don’t have to actually tap the lever up/down. The transmission will be a bit more aggressive in its shifting, i.e. it’ll hold on to its revs longer when accelerating, it’ll downshift sooner when you need to pass, etc. Makes the car feel more responsive.
@volarknight 3:35 Some of them have dual zone climate control.
thank you, fair mikeplasse
I just looked at a couple of used 08′s 40-60,000 miles about 15,000 to 18,000 from a dealership.
does this car have climate control, what is the price for a used one
Fuck gt fuck impreza fuck legacy… AND BUY A GOD DAMN EVO
I’m proud to own a Subaru. And be from Vermont <3
the 2003-2009 Subaru Legacy was assembled in
Ōta, Gunma Japan
Lafayette, Indiana (for North America)
MOST SEXY FUCKING CAR IN THE WORRRRRLLLDD
how can they compare the legacy with the honda accord and the toyota camry the subie is so much better tan those two its annoying
A wrx is better than an evo. You should try to get one
i love my 2011 legacy
Легаси – рулит!!! Обожаю свою машинку!)))
Just bought a 2009 Legacy 2.5i Special Edition and it is amazing. Quick, comfortable, not as cramped as an impreza, and it hugs the curves and corners as well as a lot of more expensive mid-size sport sedans. Only downside is that the automatic transmission is garbage.
Nice car, the good thing about the legacy is uncommon unlike Camry or Accord u c 1 out of every 5.
I have a 99 subaru legacy and it’s amazing. I love it.
an evo is better than a wrx , you should try to get an evo X
My Boyfriend has the 09′ Subaru WRX Hatchback model and I had the most awful car in the world, a 99′ VW New Beetle (BARF!) that car made me so fucking ill!!! Anyways, I’ve always wanted a Subaru ever since I sat in my boyfriend’s WRX. I’m getting the 98′ Legacy GT wagon! I can’t wait…Yay, my first Subie! <3
I like the Subaru Legacy so much ,my sister- in- law has one and I have driven it many times lovely car !
you can’t consider the 2013 civic in that list, it’s so much better than the 2012.
not the new one
I would like to see these same cars reviewed when they are 3 or 4 years old. Including maintenance and repair info and costs is very much needed information. I can’t afford or justify buying a new car, but need to replace my 1997 Chevy Cavalier soon. I thought I’d look for a used Chevy Cobalt or Honda Civic. Out of curiousity I called my insurance company and a 2009 Cavalier costs more to insure than a 2009 Honda Civic, which I found surprising.
Automatic transmission…..car destroyed!
exaclty, competition in this segment is way up
The US Ford Focus is 3 generations behind the European Focus, sorry to say…
Honda Civic?! Fuck that. Cobalt is better than that plan looking shit box.
I hope KBB will re-do this test 2013. All of the current compact cars have been extensively redesigned or is brand new (add the upcoming 2013 Nissan Sentra and new Dodge Dart to the mix.)
If KBB were to re-do this test for 2013, I think the result would be this. (not necessarily in this order) Elantra/Forte; Mazda3; Civic; Focus; Jetta/Golf; Cruze; Sentra; Corolla/Matrix
2012-2013 models
1. Elantra
2. Mazda
3. Focus
4. Corolla
5. Civic
A newer gen Honda Civic is a great all rounder, but doesn’t get me excited to go for a drive. It’s nearly impossible to find a proper manual gear box. Like a Carolla it’s an appliance, but nothing more. As someone who enjoys driving, I’d go for a VW Golf/Rabbit or Mazda 3.
i feel like Honda wins everything and thats why i love Honda
The Toyota Corolla is probably the most boring car. They didn’t even change looks much from the 2008-2009 model
It is amazing how far the compact class has come in just three years.
I’m on the fence with my 2010 Cobalt. Nice ride, quiet, poor quality interior, noisy steering box, good mpg but poor braking.
mpgomatic got 41 mpg hwy in a 2009 ford focus
cant beleive the cobalt was last my mom has one and i love it
In these older models the civic wins but in 2012, the Mazda 3 really gives some massive competition. Plus the 10 speaker Bose sound system puts Honda’s crappy 160watt system to shame!
Not really lol I just hate the inside of the new hondas except for the accords.
its because your ugly in the inside, =P
2nd gen focus and sentra sporty? Wut.
shitvic
Civic wont be rank 1 for 2012 for sure !
Keep in mind that this review happened in Janurary of 2009
The inside of the Civic is so ugly!
