This car has an automatic trans, and the body is surprisingly good, not a huge amount of bodywork was needed before painting. 134000 K. on the odo. No holes in the rockers, just a few in the floors, mostly near the sills. The rear wheel well lips needed some TLC. I found someone on Kijji selling Chevette parts, bought some stuff, including two sport mirrors, which are now on the car. I painted it with Imron Elite Express, & then clear coated it. I had this same model & year of car 20 years ago. My wife & I drove it for 5 years, & then traded it in on something else, as it was getting a bit rough. Had I rust proofed it, It would have lasted a lot longer – did it ever rust badly the last year we had it! It had the 5 speed, which helped a lot, as 65 hp isn’t much motivation. I bought it with 87000 k, & it had 237000 when we got rid of it. We drove it to NFLD, and to Edmonton. Lots of gear changing in Northern Ontario! They were tough little cars, I hope whoever has one takes good care of it, they’re getting rare. I drove this car strictly in the summers, & stored it in my garage for the rest of the year.

  1. Wow, I had one of these, but mine was an 81. I bought it for 600 wasn’t to bad. Fun car.

  2. great car..they were tanks mechanically..the interiors fell off but you couldn’t kill one …..love seeing under-appreciated cars getting re-done…excellent

  3. @stoshd Yeah either option would make it quite interesting. I guess you’ve heard of the “electrovette” GM experimented with in the early 80′s? And 350 power – Ooooh, better not, I’d get myself into trouble, & it would call for a lot of $. The stock chassis / read end won’t take the strain.

  4. nice chevette there ive got myself a 85 chevette that im going to droping in a 2.8l right now were rebuilding the 2.8l ive got machined heads, it bored 0.30 over, new k&n cai new dynomax 2 inch headers with 2 and half inch straight pipes with dual glass packs. not sure if i want to keep the 2.8l mpfi with a good spacer or if i should change her to carberated. none of it is installed yet motor is still bein rebuilt and minor body work is getting done.

  5. I have a question, I want to put the sporty mirrors on my chevette. How Would I get mirrors off and on the car? Thank you very much and you have a very nice acadian :)

  6. Wow, I have the same car, 1986, 5 door blue 5 speed Acadian but I have black door handles and 1 mirror have the original paint somewhat faded. The day before yesterday my exhaust pipe broke so now it sounds like I installed a V8 or something in the little car, shall be fixed soon.. no sunroof also

  8. NICEEEEEEEEEEEEE CAR!! These Cars were Great! Good Little Reliable RWD cars! These were allot better than Other Compact cars…including ones by GM…Like Citation and Pontiac Phoenix 1980-up

  9. Nice looking car. I love the colour. You don’t see many of those around these days, eh?

  10. @acadianfever

I had it looked at this afternoon and found out exactly what you just discribed. :)

  11. I had a window come out of the lower track, where it’s glued in. I took the panel off myself, scraped out the old glue from the track, & re-glued the window back in with JB weld. Working great so far.

  12. I just bought a 86 Acadian 2Dr … I bought it from an older lady who only ever drove it to the grocery store. This lady never missed a beat with this car… never late on matinence …never opened the back windows seat covers 100% of the time.

I love this car so far… yesterday the window dropped into the door of it’s roller… I am scared to take it in, my fear is that they will butcher the pannel.

I was very surprised at how bloddy clean the engine was when I popped the hood open

  13. I haven’t tuned it yet; I have a mechanic friend who has offered to rebuild it. A carb kits costs anywhere from $35 – $75. The fuel mixture screw is “capped” at the factory, but it’s possible to pry out the cap, and adjust the fuel leaner, if possible. Also, your choke might be sticking on a bit. I’m not sure when i’ll get it fixed, I don’t want to spend a lot on mine either

  14. did you do the tuning of the carburetor yourself cause i have one but mine idles to rich and i dont want to pay a bunch of money to get it fixed

  15. Video one had poor video quality, & so I deleted it – it’s history. I don’t know much about making videos, so I got my 12 year old daughter to make this one for me. lol I found parts by searching for them on Kijiji. Car-part.com has some – it’s a wrecking yard database. RockAuto.com has some too, I bought some from them, brakes, shocks, ball joints, etc. Other than that, good luck – parts are getting scarce. Good luck with your Chevette! do you have any videos of it?

  16. Just picked up an 84 Chevette. This is my 4th one. Where is video 1, and any suggestions on getting parts?
