  1. If Faster, it’s going to save me money? Really? The 911 is not a roaster, not even the cab, so it’s not apples to apples as far as motoring platforms go. I wanted a Roadster, so there wasn’t any decision to be had.

  2. if this was to be a true comparison..
then it needed to be 911 cab versers boxter S (it wasn’t)

What Really would be far more telling
(plus much harder for the 911 to remain winner )

911 Carrera (as basic as can be )
    verses
Cayman S with all the tricks.

Cayman is Lighter then the Boxster
Cayman is Stiffer chassis then the Boxster.
Cayman is a cleaner/aerodynamic Body with lower CG then Boxster.

Then one can have a more real world and a more telling comparison where Cayman S likely Wins All

  3. I dont think that you cant just judge these cars in terms of outright performance alone as many of the people who spend their hard earned cash certainly don’t.

There are plenty of owners want to own and drive the iconic 911 but have no intention of drag racing it or taking it to the track and feel that base model Carrera is plenty fast enough, so why bother paying the extra for the S. (an extra £9K)

I would guess that Porsche sell way too many base model 911′s to withdraw them from sale

  4. Hey let’s go abroad !! Wait, my city has hardly any jobs amongst pistol whipped poverty conditions. Maybe later, huh?

  5. Would someone please tell me, who is this dude and how the hell do I get a job doing this? What would be my education and career path? Because what he does is all I want to do.

  6. I am a HUGE 911 fan in general, but I have to say that the 2013 Cayman S would most likely beat the base 991 Carrera and I bet it would be respectably close to the Carrera S. This is obviously my opinion, but I would love to see this same comparison on these models of Porsche as well!
What an awesome video. Thanks Car and Driver!

  7. The Carrera as we know it is going away. If you want a 911 you’ll be paying for a GT or Turbo…otherwise, there will be more Cayman / Boxter permutations to choose from. When they put the turbo in the Cayman it will be over.

  8. I don’t think that many people in real life care about 1 or 2/10th of a second to get to 60. I think looks are at least as important as performance and, personally, even though I find the new boxster fantastic, I still find the 991 to be a way more beautiful car, particularly the rear end. And honestly, I would probably prefer a well-optioned Carrera with sport exhaust over a base Carrera S. So the Carrera still has a reason to be, in my opinion :)

  9. Good video. Disagree that the boxster is the moral victor here though. A boxster specced for max performance is beaten by a carrera specced for my grandad. In terms of value for money the boxster is definitely the better car but then that simply confirms what we already knew – it’s a poor/less rich man’s alternative to access a car which is almost as good but for less money

  10. The Boxster design catches no ones eye on American roads. The car costs $2 per mile to own and drive. And while the two trunks will carry groceries and clubs, a full wheel CANNOT fit anywhere in the car. If you own this car you WILL be flat bed towing it. No one can see it in their mirrors. The exhaust stinks to high heaven. There is literally NO interior, so you never have to clean it! Without PSM you go straight off the road. Americans drive gigantic SUVs, trucks, and 4x4s. Boxster=useless.

  11. Great cars, but why is the price of a Porsche 2 to 3 times the US price in Australia? Porsche Australia Rip Off!

  12. This is so sick! And the weirdest thing is that I Think the Boxster looks a lot better actually!!

  13. My first sentence was actually making fun of MagicAyrtonforever who said it’s for women. Please read my whole comment.

  14. And this from a “guy” who has a picture of a hatchback as his avatar. How silly can you be.

  15. Yeah, you’re “so” right. It is well known that convertibles are only driven by gay men… Have you ever driven the Boxster? I can tell you that the clutch is heavy, the gearshift needs to be firmly and accurately guided, that the acceleration is brutal, the engine noisy… yeah, all typical signs of a woman’s car.

  16. Glad you liked it, its a very enjoyable model car show, can’t wait to go again next year if I can make it, and if I do there will be another video again.

  17. Thanks, and I know about the music, I don’t care for it either, I thought it was something else than it actually is ! I wanted to put the Beach Boys and other oldies, but didn’t have the ability at the time. Video and Music will be much improved for next years edition.

  18. i realy like the cars, but i could not stand the music for more then a min, i had to mute it and tune in some nice oldies, but still a cool vid thanks

  19. Wonderful variety of makes and sizes, rare in the vids on the web. All I could hope for would be closer pix of vehicles where engine and interior detail are not clear. Still, thanks for taking all us viewers along to the show. It is much appreciated!
