I prefer the public car auctions such as a tow auctions, estate sales auctions and eBay..Even Craigslist at times may be a great source to look for the car. Ive had a lot of luck at local towing auctions over the years but that’s just me. In the UK do they have towing auctions or that just a USA phenomenon?

I used to live next to a car used car showroom in Wandsworth London and knew the owner as a neighbor. A friend asked me to go along with him to a car auction, once there we went into the 10k and up room where the higher quality motors were being sold. I noticed at the front standing a group of men all bidding on the a number of models also there to my amassment was my neighbor. I noted he purchased an Audi A4 which was on his forecourt the next day at a 3k increase from what he paid.
At an auction you have a preview time so you can start the car, hear it run, check the accessories, and write down what you want to pay. No pressure just avoid auction fever and do not get into bidding wars with others or you will lose your ass!
