How to Replace Honda Captive Rotors – EricTheCarGuy

This was a request from a while ago and I’m happy to get to it now. I did a bunch of video on this car (1990 Honda Accord LX) and have lots more to show you in future episodes. Honda captive rotors are a pain to say the least. For the most part you can take them somewhere that is equipped with an on-the-car brake lathe to have them machined when they get warped but in this cast they were too thin and damaged for machining and needed to be replaced. I have to admit that this job does not always go this easy, it usually requires a lot more effort, some pain, and perhaps a little blood to accomplish but I guess it was trying to behave for the camera on this day. Astute views may notice that I switched sides for the video, that’s because I ended up replacing the wheel bearing on the side that I started with and did the disassembly a bit differently as a result, good eye if you spotted that. I’ll be posting more videos from this car in future weeks so keep an eye out if you have one of these that needs some work. – Click below and Stay Dirty Visit me at EricTheCarGuy.com ericthecarguy.com Visit EricTheCarGuy Forum www.ericthecarguy.com Visit my Facebook Page: www.facebook.com –Stay dirty ETCG Due to factors beyond the control of EricTheCarGuy, it cannot guarantee against unauthorized modifications of this information, or improper use of this information. 1. This guide was great for my ’97 Acura CL 3.0. I would’ve been lost without it.

  2. I think this applies to accords from ’90 to ’97 I’m not positive so double check on that.

  5. The hardend bolt tapout was the kind of thing that makes being a shadetree much more self sufficient. We don’t need no stinkin’ machine shop! (well, yeah, sometimes we do). Someone should write a book of clever little tricks pertaining to both diagnosis and repair. Thanks!

  6. Hey Eric,

  8. I have a 90 honda accord. What brand of rotors you recommend as being good rotors that don’t need to be modified to fit in. And if I want slotted rotors, please let me know the brand of good slotted rotors as well. Thanks.

  11. I’m just wondering, can I take the outer hub off without removing everything else? For example, I just want to swap out some lugs, do I need to take the entire hub carrier to remove just the hub? Seems like a big pain in the ass. I am not used to working with outer hub cars.

  12. Wow…Why would they make it so difficult to replace rotors?!?! Gahh glad I don’t have to do that!
