2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid 0-60 MPH First Drive Review

( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid is the only turbo-charged dual-clutch transmission hybrid that you can currently buy in America. VW says that it is a no compromise hybrid that will get 45 MPG combined and will even achieve a top speed of 125 MPH. In this first drive review of the new 2013 VW Jetta Hybrid we test drive it in New Mexico to see if it lives up to VW’s promise of a “no compromise” fuel efficient hybrid car.

  1. I doubt any teenagers are going to go out and purchase this car for racing. And btw who cares if a hybrid has TURBO!! 170hp is not anything

  2. Exactly, neither do turbocharged engines, that’s why the performance is just as good at altitude.

  3. What took VW so long…I thoguht by Prius standard the car gotta be taco shaped to get 45 MPG.

  4. Maybe they want to help the environment a tad or recieve a mpg tax credit. Maybe they just don’t want to visit the gas pump as much. All logical reasons.

  5. Best MPG on the TDI cruise on 55 . 64.5 mpg . Gas can’t touch it . Hybrid either for that matter.

  6. I drive about 1000 miles a week. Did it in a gas car for years . Jetta TDI for the last 5 years. Even with the inflated price of Diesel, I have saved a good bit of money ,not to mention you can put a lot more miles on the diesel motor than a gas one.

  7. Another great review Roman. Not to sure about Hybrid Jetta at that price 32k with all the bells and whistles? I’d rather get the TDI Jetta and spend the rest on new wheels and a weekend getaway with the girlfriend. By the way does it take regular unleaded?

  8. Interesting how they take a Euro power plant (1.4 TSI / 7 spd DSG) and throw in an electric motor to make it more powerful for the US market. If it wasn’t on an EPA-friendly cycle, I think this power plant could easily net 55 MPG at least.

  9. honestly i just dont get the point of hybrids and diesels in the american market….they WILL NOT SAVE YOU ANY MONEY. you pay a hefty premium up front that you will NEVER MAKE UP IN FUEL SAVINGS. either hybrid/diesel buyers are plain stupid and fall for the MPG sticker, or they are only concerned with carbon output, or are concerned with being perceived by others as environmentally responsible

  10. $25k base jetta hybrid gets 45mpg…. $17k base jetta gas gets 29mpg……is $8000 worth 16mpg??? LETS DO THE MATH.

at an average of 12 000 miles per year the hybrid jetta will save you about 500 bucks a year in fuel over the regular gas jetta
this means that it will take the average jetta hybrid owner 16 years to break even with the average non hybrid jetta owner on cost alone NOT TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE EXPENSIVE BATTERY PACK REPLACEMENT…. NOT WORTH IT!!!

  11. Keep in mind that with this Jetta it has the newer 1.4 TSI (which can also be found in the new mk7 golf and (i think) the new Audi A3) that only has a turbo unlike the Polo GTI that has a turbo and supercharger. Although you could probably still get 180hp and 250nm from the 1.4 TSI in the jetta by tuning.

  12. I’d be curious to see the difference in the 0-60 between what you saw in Santa Fe and somewhere near sea level. My suspicion is that the combination of the turbo and the electric motor negates a lot of the altitude effect, so VW’s 8.6 s number may not be too far off. Still a very good number at over a mile up, though.

  13. Just curious how the transition between electric motor and gasoline engine is. Any thought on that?

  14. I think you should use some books to find those 7 HP… and I hope you aren’t an engineer, because as I listen to your “reviews”, your knowledge ends on the producer’s spec brosure…it’s so embarrassing…

  15. Two things. First will it come in manual? Second. I wish they would just bring the polo over. It may be diesel but it gets 70mpgs!

  16. In your opinion though, is it really giving more value and fuel mileage for the price over getting a Jetta with a TDi? Being a fan of VW’s diesel motor for a while now, as it has great fuel efficiency on extremely long drives, has always been a key decision when I look at VW.

  17. Roman, what song/ instrumental is that in the video?anyway I just cant get into Jettas…they are just kind of plain looking it doesn’t make me feel anything when looking at it. and they can be pricey. Not bad 0-60 for a hybrid though.

  18. The number of powertrain options available for the Jetta is amazing. VW is way ahead of the competition in the American market in this respect.
