Replacing Honda Front Struts – EricTheCarGuy

Replacing Honda Front Struts – EricTheCarGuy After posting the last video on replacing struts I thought I would post this one next. I shot this along with the rest of the Accord front end work that I did last fall. A couple of things are different, the most obvious is that the springs are a much smaller diameter so you really need to be careful when you work with these since the spring compressor doesn’t have as much to grab hold of. Second, when you install the struts back on the car care must be taken to get the notch on the strut lined up with the wishbone, if you don’t do this the upper wishbone bolt will not go in since it has to fit in a groove on the back of the strut. For the second time I’ve shown you that I tighten the lower wishbone bolt with the car off of the ground, the fact is I shouldn’t do this since I’m told it may ruin the bushing that goes through the lower control arm. I believe this to be possible but I have not experienced any problems doing it this way. For me it just seems like a pain in the butt to try and reach around the tire after I’ve put the wheel back on. But for those of you that like to point out my faults here is my excuse for not doing it the “right” way. – Click below and Stay Dirty Visit me at EricTheCarGuy.com ericthecarguy.com Visit EricTheCarGuy Forum www.ericthecarguy.com Visit my Facebook Page: www.facebook.com – Be safe andstay dirty ETCG Due to factors beyond the control of EricTheCarGuy, it cannot guarantee against

  1. Have you seen Atomic Fat Loss? (Google it) It is a quick way for you to lose fat fast.

  2. hey Eric…i am not really in the mood of reading all this comments bellow. i am about to change my front struts on my ford mondeo BAP 1997 and i know there are some tests before instaling them (some arming tests). my question is …. how i do this test? and how do i figure my struts are good.. to be more precise about this test. there are several comments on the internet that after mounting new struts on cars after a short period the car sounds like the struts are broken..please help!!!

  3. The three bolts that are exposed under the hood – top strut bolts- can they be removed from their origanl housing and then replaced with longer bolts (planning to do a lift). Thanks, if this need clarification just ask me and ill explain better.

  4. I’ve been cautioned by several techs against using air tools when doing this job, more specifically when installing the upper strut mount. Foolishly, I chose to ignore that.
Lo and behold, when installing aftermarket KYB struts on my Prelude, my buddy used an air tool and snapped the strut.

  5. hey eric, i have a 2nd gen integra DA… it is lowered on coilovers. when i am driving and hit a bump my front passenger side clunks… like its bottoming out… is that a bad strut?

  6. 1994 Honda Accord__ changed upper control arms and stabilizer bushings on both sides 4 months ago. The vehicle squeaks badly when I turn the steering wheel weather the car is in motion or standing still, or when I mount or dismount. Could it be the towers rubber pad needs greasing or could it be the tower bearing?( if there is a bearing up there) Could you please enlighten me.

  7. Is it the same process when installing lowering springs. I ask cause the new springs are smaller then the stock springs

  8. this same EXACT thing happened to me today. but i fucked up even worse. the head of the bolt broke! now im seriously just screwed..
and i only bought lowering springs not shocks, i planned on using my stock ones, and the new springs dont even fit my shocks.

  9. HELP!
i attempted to lower my car today. the lower bolt connecting the rear shock would not come off. i went at it for a while, and then it fuckin broke. now most of the remaining bolt is stuck in the bushing and i cant get it out.
Also, the lowering springs that i bought don’t even fit in my shocks. theyre too small even uncompressed.

  10. Any tips of how to get the bolt out of a seized bushing for the rear strut of a civic?
The bolt is seized into the metal sleeve of the bushing, torquing on it only cracks and destroys the bushing. I am thinking I will have to replace the bushing, and just cut the bolt and the lower strut arm off,

  11. I have a Honda and I have it on Coilovers. I need struts and shocks but im not sure what to do. Either get struts and shocks and take leave on my coilovers or will i need a camber kit also?

  12. Using coil compressors is dangerous to begin with, but using Harbor Freight coil compressors is suicide. Use nice tools for dangerous jobs.

  14. NOPE. SCREW THAT. “In other news, young male dies from spring to face.” NOPE NOPE NOPE

  15. Eric The Car Guy is a pro and knows what he’s doing. To the DIYSers don’t ever use that type spring compressor on struts with a strong spring (most of them). i would only use those type if I had no other way out.I put a cable clamp (looks like a small muffler clamp) on the down side to prevent slipping. To tighten bushings place a jack stand safely under the control arm. Lower vehicle just untill ths suspension components are in alignment then tighten. I had a flashback when that thing flew.

  16. When replacing the front struts (as a completely new assembly not just springs) will I need to have the front alignment done as well. Love your videos by the way keep em coming.
